Dancing Queen Phay Ray and the mirror-balled Urang have transformed King Kommunications into Studio 69 for this Saturday night's send off to another fine Burnie Hash year (or 13 months).

The evening starts at 5:30 with a stroll around Burnie nightspots, before glamming-up for an evening of shaking your groove thing to the funky sounds of the Disco King.

The HTV Awards will be presented for Bolt Error, Cocque Cup and Richard Cranium, plus other minor awards I was not privy to selecting so they're bound to be not as good as previous years.

Cost is $25, which covers r*n, on on, 3 course meal, badge, plus fabulous entertainment. BYO evening drinks, and a coat to ward off the evening chills so as to avoid a Saturday Night Fever.

Thirteen hashers, three hours, one small torch, one mobile phone.
That day (night) will live on forever in the minds it scarred - Virgin Danny reclaimed his virginity and left the island, Corpse is now as ethereal as his name implies, Grizzly and Lone Arranger moved to the opposite end of the island, Nicer Pair-a-Tiffs can only hash in small measures, A Bit of This and Truly have found any excuse to spend one more weekend away from the coast. Even one of the hares has exiled himself to a remote part of the big island.

So, why has the Trailmaster agreed to let the remaining hare set a run in the same area at the same time of the year? Is he mad? (Yes) Is he bereft of all commonsense? (Yes) Is he a dickhead? (Well, I wouldn't go that far) (Okay, yes)

Nevertheless, the pack is invited to travel to the hole in the road, at the very end of Dial Road, Penguin, armed with torches, flares, GPS, sniffer dogs, ration packs, thermal blankets and a stiff shot of whiskey for this Sunday's trail, starting at 3:30pm and set by that bastard, B.A. Stard.

Afterwards, assuming that you make it out before dawn, the on on will move back to 6 Adina Court, Penguin, where the hot tub will be percolating away (beans for nosh?).

Bring the aforementioned safety items, a hat, a mug, a joke, and someone you may never speak to again, afterwards. Bring extra for a raffle's chance to win Knickers, knickers or something worth having.

Preparations for next week's big 2008 AGPU extravaganza are well in hand (well, something's in hand). The platforms are being shoe-d, the flares are being widened and Urang's mirrored balls have never looked so shiny.

Thirty years ago the spirit of Gispert touched a group of fit young men in tight shorts from Launceston. These days you'd probably end up in gaol, but instead Burnie Hash is going north to help Launceston Hash celebrate its 30th anniversary.

The run starts at 2.30pm on Saturday from CARNACOO Scout camp, Paper Beach (follow signs from Gravelly Beach turn off, near Exeter).

This will be followed by a 70s themed 3-course dinner (black tie from waist up or fancy dress)
On Sunday there will be breakfast special time trial recovery run and brunch.

In just the space of two years our own Dick Tayshun has been drunk in a spa in her underwear among near-complete strangers, been elected to the high office of Hash Cash, attended an Interhash, and now, apparently located the lost civilisation of Fossil Bluff.

Yes, own intrepid DT will be leading a archaeological party to this hitherto unknown place, apparently located off the end of Freestone Crescent in Wynyard.

Using only a ancient, crusty UBD and a compass, DT has left instructions to "go through the township or Wynyard where you get to the Top Pub then you turn right at the roundabout as if you are heading to Table Cape , I think the road is called Saunders and turns into Table Cape road anyway then as you cross the bridge approx 2 kms you turn right into Golf Links Rd yes this takes you to Wynyard Golf club but don't go all the way to the end which is where the golf club is because then you have gone too far. You turn off into Freestone Cres till you hit the beach and you have arrived!!"

From memory, hitting the beach off Freestone Crescent may require a free-fall of about 50 metres, so be prepared for the sudden stop.

Following a Burnie Hash-free* HOFT last week, control of Sunday hashing has been wrested back by Dini, ensuring that this Sunday afternoon will be filled with flour, hash brew and burnt barbecue offerings - just as Gispert decreed.

This week's true trail starts at 3:30pm from the riverside park at the junction of Fern Glade Road and Wattle Avenue in a slightly dislocated area of Emu Heights (in Burnie).

Bring a hat (a funny one), a mug (one that looks like you can open crown seals with it, but can't), a friend (let's not get too fussy here, knowing their first name is optional), and a piece of wood (it's traditional). Bring $10 to cover run, food and bucket, plus a bit extra for a chance to win something unspeakingly crap in the Knickers raffle.

As the last of the Interhashers straggle back into the state our Burnie hashers will be brought back to normality with a gentle stroll.

To the top of Mt Murchison.

Yes, I know that it's been tried before, but this time Dint assures us that he has the Hash Monk onside and a cloud-free day will ensue. Regrettably, the Monk reports that her powers over weather are waning because of a lack of Guinness at on ons, so anything could happen.

HOFT-ers should gather at McDonalds' car park at 9:30 to arrange transport, before re-gathering at the Tullah Café (formerly the Tavern).

If the Monk fails, there will be a gentle stroll to Montezuma Falls. If the Monk fails dismally, HOFT-ers may simply head straight to the Rosebery pub.

Urang's Cocque Cup from beyond Ridgley will wait for another day.

All Burnie Hash types would know that March 30 Sunday is the real date of the Hash Run, not March 29. So there it is March 30 at 3:30pm, as decreed by the Great One. March 29 is the change from Daylight savings, you've been warned, so excuses about ignorance won't be accepted. Now that the 30th and the 29th have thoroughly confused everyone. there is one final, well maybe two points to be made, the run starts from Somerset Tennis Courts @ 3:30pm. Bring whatever money you have leftover from after the Easter chocolate sales as the on-on will be at the Somerset Pub ( that is the white one on Wragg St).

Lurve is in the air this weekend is Don Juan Dyke prepares to lead the love-lost HOFT-ers to Valentines Peak.

Meet at Hampshire (the junction of Ridgley Highway and Natone Road, 31km south of Burnie) at 11 am sharp for convoy to the starting point. If you are late, you'd better have a fast car with a number on the side, because the road will be closed for Rally Tasmania.

Bring everything needed for a walk of this type. Surviving HOFT-ers will adjourn to La Porchetta in Burnie for an evening meal and de-brief (I assume that's the same as a nude run).

HOFT to St. Valentines Peak- Updated Details

This coming Sunday, North West Hashing’s very own Casanova hosts a HOFT to the romantically pointy mountain behind Burnie.

Join Dyke for a chance to wear your heart on your sleeve (after it leaps out of your chest halfway up the mountain), walking through bush and rainforest to the summit, around 1100 metres elevation.

Expected walking time is approx 2 hours 30 minutes return.

Bring lunch, drink, coat and money for counter meal and ales afterwards at La Porchetta in Burnie.

Meet at the junction of Ridgley Highway and Natone Road (31km south of Burnie) at 11 am sharp for convoy to the starting point.

Latecomers (that’s you, Ringo) will find themselves excluded, as the road is being closed for the staging of a bitumen rally shortly thereafter. Road access is barred until 4.30 pm.

With floods and storms hitting most of the eastern seaboard, you'd be amazed to hear that A Bit of This isn't on another ill-fated northern excursion, but is readying herself as hare for this Sunday's trail from Upper Natone.

The r*n starts at 5:30 from the Upper Natone Forestry Reserve, Blythe Road, Upper Natone (about 8.5km from Hampshire, along Upper Natone Road). Look for the travelling gypsy van with long dog.

Bring a hat, mug, joke and friend. Bring $10 for bucket and tucker, plus extra cash for Knickers' wigged waffle (isn't that a merkin?)

There are now three hash events on 29th February.

There are two 'official' Leap Year hashes - one at Bellerive and the other at Ulverstone - the question is are they both set by the Phantom Hasher? (see http://www.tashash.blogspot.com/ for the running commentary)

The Ulverstone chapter starts from the Rocket Park in Ulverstone at 6:30pm, followed by a counter meal at the local.

The southern chapter starts from Kangaroo Bay Drive, Bellerive at 6:30pm - BYO barbecue meat and drinks.

Then there is the POSH Hash AGPU - date and venue TBA.
