This week the Hare de Jour Dyke has cooked his goose, coming up with some lame duck excuse that he has to work. So he's coerced Matchsticks to fill the cavity.
This week's r*n will now be set from the pump station at Fern Glade, and weather permitting the On On will be at the barbecue area. Should things turn inclement, a pub meal may be on the cards, so bring extra cash just in case.

This week’s Burnie r*n will be set by Ratchet and Knickers from the Port Sorell Caravan Park. All you need to do to find it is drive right to the end of the main road in to Port Sorell, find a park, locate toilets and use your eyeballs to spy a shady looking group of hashers...

Be sure to come along as it is (almost) a certain hasher’s special day and if you don’t the spoils will go to Devonport Hash the following night!

Not get quite what you'd hoped for at Christmas? Well here's your chance to wash away all those Yuletide Blues, and the Red and White furry ones too.
This Saturday January 7th, Ratchet and Knickers are hosting a barbecue at their home 1054 Isandula Road, Gawler. Turn up (naked is OK) and bring alcohol and meat. Things kick off any time after 1 pm and there is accommodation available on request, first in first served. The garden and the cellar will be open for inspection, and sniffer dogs will be on hand for anyone looking to make off with sippings, cuttings or the family silver, Urang. Karaoke has not been mentioned. Damn, I just did...
Sunday sees a return to "regular" Burnie Hashing, and hare A Bit of This is setting a brunch r*n from Isandula Road at the all new and exciting, never-to-be-repeated-till-next-year time of 11 am. Don't forget your hat and your raffle money. All unwanted Christmas gifts will be welcomed by raffle rigger Speed Hump, a noted recycler long before the dung beetle was imported.
Another important reminder is for the High Noon for Full Moon weekend at Pyengana on January 14/15. This year we're in the dairy, pulling tits. Milkmaids, cheesemakers, wranglers, mad cows, lots of bull. Accommodation at the Pub in the paddock, camping, or you can contact Lone Arranger for digs at the local hall. It'll be a Full Moo-oon to remember.

Swallower's concerns, Pucker Boy will be setting this week's trail
from the safest place in the world, Blythe Heads campground at
Heybridge. It's so full of bikie gangs, there's never any trouble
there.
Bring: Hat, Mug, Friend, Joke, $10 and raffle money. Those with
asteroids should ensure their own comfort at the On On by bringing a
chair. The Hare suggests that there may be mud on trail, and that
floaties and budgie smugglers may also have their place. North side
of the Heybridge Roundabout, Sunday September 11th, 3pm.

To some, the sight of a crisp, white linen dress, the smell of a freshly clipped grass and the satisfying clunk of two heavy balls coming together is enough to commit whole weekends to.

Hare Dyke doesn't strike me as an avid watcher of Jack High, but for this week he's willing recognise the value of a good head, as Burnie trail starts at 3pm from the Turners Beach Bowls Club in Susan Street.

Personally, I'm disappointed that my dear reader is off having a terrible time in Europe, because I reckon she'd look a cracker in flat shoes and that fetching white hat they wear.

According to the Burnie Trash (about as reputable a source as News of the World) the next Burnie trail is a "Hippity Hoppity HOFT set by Phay Wray".

Try as I might, I have no idea what that involves. I have sort of ruled out that it means bonking rabbit-style anything that moves, because Phay Wray is not that sort of gal. Besides, if it moves it's already too fast for the average Burnie hasher to catch, let alone bonk.

It could mean an extended Easter egg hunt, finding three month old Easter eggs purchased on the cheap off eBay, because Phay Wray IS that sort of gal.

The only way to find out is to meet at 10:00am in the car park behind McDonalds, Ulverstone.

Standard Hashing attire suitable for the day’s weather, and a change of clothes. A mystery tour HOFT—bring cash for lunch and maybe dinner...

Vale Christopher 'Lord' Eden

It is with sadness that we report the recent passing of Christopher "Lord" Eden, co-founder of Hobart Hash House Harriers.

Lord Eden was an icon in Tasmanian hashing circles and supported our chapter's inaugural run in 1978:
Taking into account the limitedintelligence and lack of experience of our pack, we invited one LordChristopher Eden, co-founder of the Hobart Chapter and Rex Viney, Founder ofthe Launceston Chapter.
They failed to impress ourmembers greatly. The former, who hadarrived in all his pomp and glory, was by the end of the day reduced to amumbling drunk and the latter, who during the closing stages of the run, had histesticles rearranged whilst astride an electric fence in wet pastures, spentthe rest of the evening snarling at anyone who went near him.

High School reunions are generally awkward events, probably akin to sado-masichism but with far less leather. It generally takes 10 or so years after leaving school to forget the horrible stuff enough to want to see how badly everyone else has fared.

Not hare LaLa, who is pining for the days of the old school yard enough to set this week's Burnie hash trail from Parklands High School, in Atkins Drive, Romaine.

There will be advanced finger painting classes and perhaps a 1980s video presentation on how to apply a condom to a banana (never worked out why you'd need to do that). After school day care will be at 120 Mount St, Burnie.

The King is dead. Really dead, this time.

Like any newly-installed monarch, King Ringo the First has scarpered off in the regal economy class carrier of choice to visit his peers in the old country, leaving his loyal subjects to pretty much do what they like, which is what they would have done, regardless. Meanwhile, the hare to the throne has been fitted into a fetching new red vest and is contemplating life as a tampon.

With King Ringo overseas, his loyal subjects have declared six weeks of feasting and will start with a gathering at 3pm from Royal Wimbeldon (Burnie sub-branch), Eastwood Drive, Burnie, under the republican gaze of hare Sword Swallower (let them drink cake!).

The King is dead! Long live the King!

It is somewhat ironic that the crown of Burnie Hash's most prolific hasher should pass from Grizzly to Ringo on the Queen's Birthday weekend of 2011. It's been a lengthy reign; Grizzly was one of three hashers to first reach the milestone of 50 runs back in 1980 and has not been knocked off the throne since.

The venue for Ringo's coronation will be one of his realm's southern outposts, Bronte Park, where the loyal subjects of Chardonnay Hash are gathering for the annual Highland Fling and have agreed to bend over and lift ther kilts as a mark of respect. That's the way they roll, at Chardonnay.

Each year at the eleventh hour of the eleventh month we stop to remember. Remember what I can't say, because I've forgotten, but I remember to remember.

This Saturday we remember the 1111 (eleven-eleven) Burnie Hash trails that have laid down their flour to preserve our way of life. Probably not worth it, really.

Second-Lieutenant Ratchet is in charge of orchestral manoeuvres in the dark, with the first wave heading over the trenches at 4pm from 1054 Isandula Rd, Gawler.

This will be followed by the AGPU, at which the existing Committee will be court-martialed, incarcerated, castrated, exonerated, then given a quick buff up and a new rank for the coming hash year. That's the way we roll in Burnie.

Dear reader, my apologies for not posting last week. I'd like to blame slackness, for that is the easiest to believe, but in this instance Mr Blogger was having Friday off and I could not acess the site during taxpayer-funded time.

The Phil Spectre of Burnie's AGPU looms large and a lot of people are looking nervous lest they be given a job! Ah, who am I kidding; if you've attended more than 10 runs with Burnie in a year you'll ALWAYS get a job. That's the way it works!

But I'm getting ahead of myself, for we still have one more tilt for a Bolt Error nomination for run of the year, with a GonZo run starting from the Woollies carp ark in Upper Burnie. Much easier for GonZo to duck in and grab two miscellaneous food items from the shelf and try to convince everyone that it's a foreign delicacy and that it really tastes nice. Trail starts at the unreasonably early hour of 3pm.

No other day on the calendar strikes fear into a male's heart as much as Mothers Day. Okay, maybe prostate check day is up there, but somehow a simple day to celebrate your own mother now includes anyone within the vicinity for whom the uterus has been stretched further than a politician's truth, plus anyone with the potential for motherhood who owns a cat, dog or Siberian hamster and speaks to it in nausiatiting human baby language. Add to this the stress of buying a present that will never satisfy, an over-priced piece of cardboard containing words that you would never string together yourself even when pissed, and cooking a meal big enough to feed several central African tribes for a week. Extend this pain further because your offspring are too broke or lack any real care factor to participate, so you have to cover for them as well.

Don't even get me started on the flowers.

Once upon a time it was TRADITIONAL for Burnie H3 NOT to r*n on Mothers Day, because frankly every male was too emotionally drained by the end of the day to participate. Enter A Bit of This, who is to tradition what a well-placed bullet was to Osama's head.

So, THIS Mothers Day there WILL be a Burnie H3 trail and it will be set by a uterus-free hare, just to extend the day's glorious misery. What's more, the hare will be setting a genuine live trail with the threat of a pantsing, cook the barbecue and then drive three and a half hours just to get home.

Happy Mothers Day, my arse.

Trail starts at the earlier time of 3pm from the Penguin Sports Centre, Ironcliffe Road, Penguin (just past Penguin High School, which I only mention because you can never have too many Penguins) and will be set by hare Grizzly.

It should be noted that 95% of fathers are just happy with a six pack of beer and to be left alone to watch sport on the television on Fathers Day.

Easter - the only time of the year where eating something small and brown that has been left behind by a rabbit is considered normal.

The Easter hare has packed up and is heading to one of Burnie's expanding western suburbs - a little place called Marrawah. The HOFT (actually three HOFTs) will encompass a series of short walks in the Tarkine area — including Trowutta Arch, Lake Chisholm, Beckett Falls, Balfour Track Forest Reserve, Sarah Ann Rocks, Marrawah coastal walks, others as dictated by time and weather.

Friday 22nd HOFT - meet at Macca’s Burnie @ 10 am.
Saturday 23rd HOFT - meet at Marrawah Pub @ 9am.
Sunday 24th HOFT - meet at Marrawah Pub @ 9am.

Organise own accommodation if required. Bring: Gear suitable for daywalk (potentially in wet conditions - the monk has the weekend off), your lunch, and food to share for Friday dinner (it’s Good Friday and everything is closed!), plus the usual Hat Mug Joke Friend $10, extra drinks, money for Pub grub Saturday.

Luckily, the average Burnie hasher is unconcerned by superstition (and the average Devonport hasher can't count past 10), so any suggestions of impending disaster at the hare-y hands of Ringo will be met with stoic resolve and stiff upper lip (or other body parts capable of occasional stiffening). Mirror breaking and ladder limbo dancing will commence at 4:00pm SHARP from an undisclosed point past the Highclere 'shop' (look for signs, such as a black cat crossing the road).

On one thousand, and ninety nine occasions some flour has been ritually thrown to the ground in and around the Burnie area, shortly thereafter eagerly followed by a group of athletes. Sure, sometimes it hasn't been flour - or even trail - and sometimes it's not been in or around Burnie (unless you class the crime-riddled streets of West Moonah as a suburb of Burnie). Granted, they're not all athletes, either. Not even 'special' athletes.

Regardless, this Sunday marks the 1,100th occasion of something that may or may not resemble a trail set for the Burnie Hash House Harriers, which is by most standards something to be celebrated. Unless you happen to be a member of the Burnie hash House Harriers, apparently.

So, this Sunday hare Ratchet will deliver his usual high standard of trail, sans trumpets and fanfare to mark the auspicious milestone (although the usual strumpets will be in attendance), starting at 4pm from 1054 Isandula Road, Gawler.

Bring a hat, mug, joke, friend, $10, raffle change and extra drinks if you are a p!sshead. Who knows, perhaps there'll be a chocolate biscuit to celebrate - just the one, mind you.

April Fools Day - very tempting to use the occasion to announce something seemingly newsworthy but ultimately bogus, such as 'A Bit of This renounces her British citizenship and thinks the Australian cricket team "a top bunch of blokes" ', but some stories are just too hard to swallow.

Speaking of swallow (note segue), this week's Burnie Hash run will be the virgin Tasmanian trail for hares Pucker Boy and Sword Swallower, set from the Burnie tennis courts at Eastwood Drive. Be prepared for non-standard markings, strange trail deviations and foreign hash traditions. Much like your average GonZo run, I suspect (c'mon, smoked oysters on Iced Vovos?).

With the demise of daylight savings (he types, shedding a tear), this week's pack will be sent off at 4pm.

To get on trail, head to Ridgley, turn off to Guide Falls and continue past the Tewksbury turning. Carry on to the T junction of North Prospect Road and then turn right. Follow this road to the end and look for sign.

It's a 5:00pm start wit the On On back at the U-Ray abode.

Two Moons are twice the fun

Even though we are all Looning off to Oatlands to be Masterbakers on Jan 22nd, the Full Moon we love to crave is actually two days earlier.
Devoted Loonies may gather at a public house (Furners) in Ulverstone at 7pm on Thursday January 20th to join with Hare Lip Flasher for stroll, sips and sustenance before baring their buns under the silvery glow of the January moon.
According to written club lore (the ink is still drying), attendance at this moonwa*k or at Oatlands will count as a LoonRhasH r*n

Chief dwarf Happy (last time I saw Dyke he was wearing a shirt proclaiming that he was gay - same thing) will be leading the Burnie Hash dwarves, Dopey, Dopey, Dopey, Dopey and Dopey ('cos you'd have to be dopey to follow Dyke anywhere!) on a day walk starting at Alma Bridge.

Meet at the Forth Pub at 10 am on Sunday 9 January - bring lunch and drinks, and money for Pub meal after. Happy rates this outing as “easy-peasy”, around 13km in length and significantly flatter than Mount Roland.

In a short time, parents will set aside their normal reservations about a strange fat man wandering through their house in the middle of the night and enticing their children with gifts. This will be followed by the ritual of cooking far much more than can be consumed within 24 hours, mid-afternoon sleep on any surface not occupied by a relative, and the festive season's equivalent of post-natal depression.

Never fear - hope comes on Sunday afternoon in the form of Dini's cold turkey run from the lone chook ranch. Replace that festive funk with the smell of manure and dead animals! Enticing!

I don't really want much for Christmas. A cricket team that can win would be nice, but I know that's a tall order.

I thought that you may be interested to hear news of your crack Santa Operations Group, which as been in training all year at your Burnie campus. I'm pleased to report that some members have plumped up nicely for the occasion. Some of the female members (it was your idea to be an equal-opportunity employer) have managed to grow a bit of a beard, but we'll have to rely on fake ones again.

The final test will be held this Sunday, starting at 5:00pm from Spotlight in Burnie. The squad will be tested in their three-Hs (Ho Ho Hos) and undergo a rigourous stuffing with cake and sherry. We'll have to re-think the carrots, though.

Hang on Santa - Johnson's just taken three wickets - you certainly work fast!

Devonport Hash, begat from the heaving loins of Burnie H3, will be celebrating it's 30th anniversary with a galah event at the Spreyton Casino Complex (otherwise known as Trakka and Tinsel's place), Tarleton Rd, Spreyton.

As the doting single parent of this illegitimate child, Burnie Hash will be there to spike the drinks, vomit on the lawn and have lewd photos taken with Tinsel's extensive collection of garden gnomes.

Not satisfied with recent expansions into Spreyton and Port Sorel, Burnie has lifted up its outskirts and plonked them down well into LH3 and LH4 territory.

This week’s BURNIE trail is being set Giggles and Boomboom in the leafy suburb of Grindelwald, a mere 90 minutes drive from the Burnie CBD. The brunch trail starts at 10:30am from 4 Pleasant Hills Drive, Grindelwald.

This is why hare Speed Hump will be marshalling the Burnie Hash shoppers in the personal aisle of the West Park Grove supermarket for a 5pm trolley stroll. Oh great, it isn't even a real supermarket, just a glorified corner store!

Bring a hat, mug $10.00 for food and bucket, but leave the Frequent Shoppers Card at home because IT'S NOT A REAL SUPERMARKET. Bring extra cash to bankrupt Phay Ray's dwindling quality *cough* raffle prizes while GonZo still has control.

Next week's hare will no doubt want to start from the car wash at the BP petrol station, followed the week after by trail from the cut price hairdressers. I don't know how you Burnie hashers can stand the constant excitement.

On Sunday they have to run like Speedy Gonzales for 10km, so how do they prepare? They head out the day before to run over muddy hills and down slippery valleys, then spend the night feasting on chili and drinking tequila!

Perhaps it's not so loco - I know something like that gives me the runs!

The cattle truck leaves from los rancho Ringo and Dini (448 West Mooreville Rd, Burnie) at 2pm sharp. Cost is mucho pesos, but where else can you whack your piñata in public?

"Go West", the Village People once said. They also said "you can get it at the YMCA", but we prefer not to talk about that.

This weekend, however, we do act on their words and head west for the 7th annual Wild West Weekend, holed up again at the Mt Bischoff Hotel, Waratah. Head wrangler Phay Wray wants all the greenhorns to assemble between noon and 12:30pm, ready for a 2:00pm stampede (or earlier if all the cattle are penned). Yee and haw!

Cost is $70, which covers two runs, piss stop, circle, accommodation, three course evening meal and cooked breakfast. Buy your own grog at the bar. Boy howdy!

Bring along your wild west evening gear and karaoke act (with own CD).

I'm afraid that this will be our last piece of 'intimate' corespondence. You will recall that I spoke briefly of 'the other'; it now appears that there may be more. I've just been abused by some bint in Burnie because I had yet to send my regular communique to you, dear reader. No longer, it seems, can I type sweet nothings for viewing via your graphic user interface only.

Regardless, I acknowledge your correspondence advising that the Trailmaster has fallen to the age-old device of setting a run himself instead of finding hares. I hope that he is at least good at setting trail.

I gather that you will gather at his Tuggers summer house at 2/64 Tugrah Rd. Spreyton. I also gather that there will be cake, both cooked and in its rawest form - a birthday and 450 run 'millstone', no less.

Are you still running at 3:00pm? Shirley you should have started moving it out to the summer start time by now!

Don't forget to bring the headwear, the cash and the grail.

And so, dear reader, I sign off for a final time, or at least until they all get bored again and you return to being my sole reader, abbreviated to r-sole.

Dear reader,

You've been strangely silent this past week. Perhaps you are upset by the attention being shown by 'the other', or perhaps the Trailmaster has finally stepped into the 21st century and you no longer feel wanted (but no, the absence of a decent receding hareline rules that out).

I have been forced to rely upon information via that bint from Burnie, who also happens to be this week's hare. Trail apparently starts at Pioneer Park, follow signs, probably closer to South Riana but nowhere near Choveau Road. This seems to be rather vague, but there's nothing quite so ball-tingling as heading out late on hash day with only a general idea of where you are going. Perhaps you wouldn't understand, being somewhat lacking in the 'two veg' department.

In the absence of information to the contrary, I'll make the call of a 3pm start, and bring a hat, mug, joke, firewood and $10 for brew and burgers; Chunder may even have some ill-fitting shirts from Sarawak to raffle off.

I do hope to hear from you again, dear reader, as I miss your demanding e-mails and rebuking comments.

Dear reader,

It seems like an eternity since I have had a chance to communicate with you, and much has happened during the meanwhilst. During our short separation it would appear that I've attracted the attention of another reader. Please don't think of me as shallow, but I think that there may be enough wanker to go around. I would understand if you are upset by this news and decided to look elsewhere for your hashing news - Gispert knows that there is so much of it going around these days.

If it's any consolation, I don't think it will last - the 'other' reader likes to get hers early, and I just don't know if I can satisfy her needs.

Nevertheless, I offer the following in the hope that it will be accepted by you in the manner in which it is intended...

This week's trail will be set by that stout fellow, Ratchet, although I will leave it to you to decide if he is short and round stout or rich and dark stout. The jungle drums of western Borneo did not carry information of where the trail will start, but knowing gay old Ratchet as I do (again, you decide which way the adjectives fall), the trail will start somewhere along Isandula Road in Gawler.

The days draw longer, but I suspect that the run will still start at 3:00 in the PM and that each hasher should bring the usual assortment of cash and kind.

To celebrate of the return of our glorious band of tee total hashers from outer Brunei Burnie hashers are requested to convene at the lower car park...(the gravel end) of the University in Mooreville Road for a r*n set by Speed Hump. R*n will commence at 3pm prompt. The On-on will be moved to the new House of Hump in Ridgely where we will imbibe tea and eat scones, jam and Devonshire cream in recognition of our non-drinking friends!

Personally I'd kill for a burnt sausage and a Guinness but we must observe these new Hash Traditions!! (Wonder how long they will last???)

There will be yet another 'millstone' to celebrate.... this time Speedy is welcome to the flour storm as I'm fed up with eating muddy scones at the chicken farm!! The grit gets in my teeth and even the chickens ignore them!!

Now that the 'ABC draw card' at 7.30pm has finished we may now continue the celebrations with cocoa until late!!

Is it a bird? is it a plane? No it's Dyke setting trail from the Penguin Viewing Centre in West Park, Burnie. This will be a minor 'Millstone' half the size of the last one!! Soooo more flour for tea and scones at the chicken farm on Sunday. It would be a shame if more than a bit of flour was wasted on this Hasher! R*n will start at 3pm with the on-on moved to the chicken farm to complete the destruction thereof before the owners return on Monday.

Our intrepid Interhashers made their assault on Mt Kinabalu yesterday. News is sketchy but nearly all made the summit, and everyone is safely back at ground level. No doubt we'll hear all the details soon!

The next InterHash will be at Borobodun Java from 25th-27th May 2012.

Your official WebWanker should be back to take the reins next week!

No 'Millstones' this week (we are still trying to get rid of the flour storm debris at the chicken farm) but there will be celebrations aplenty when our very own captive American... GonZo sets fourth with her stars,stripes and spangled banner from the far end of Woolworths carpark in Upper Burnie.

A prompt 3pm start for all including a certain Mr. B A Stard of DH3.

Wear suitable attire; bring the usual $10 plus grail and extra money in case anyone decides to run a raffle. There will be plenty of booze for all; unlike in Brunei where our lost amigos have had to resort to drinking chocolate milk shakes!!! The On-on will be at 31 Seaview Ave. Burnie.

And so, dear reader, it comes to this.

The biennial madness known as Interhash draws near and its siren song is being answered by 50-odd Tasmanian hashers (and they don't come any odder than this lot). Burnie Hash has surrendered more than its fair share, leaving behind a skellington crew to keep the home fires burning and to keep the call of 'On!' bouncing off them thar hills.

The last hurrah for some of the travellers will be heard this Sunday, with Dini ousting you, dear reader, as the hare du jour. I understand that the pack will assemble at the former House of Hump, 120 Mount St, Burnie, which is now part of the Dingo rental portfolio, with slumlord Dini grasping the dribble dropper firmly with both hands. The r*n starts at the ABC-friendly time of 3:00pm-ish; bring the usual accoutrements.

I note, dear reader, that you have requested that we bring back an orang-utan. I'm afraid that our luggage restrictions may see us wearing every piece of clothing available just to get the luggage home, so one of the great apes may be beyond our ability. Perhaps you can make do with an Urang-utan - he is large, hairy and stinks like a rugby player's jock strap too.

I have no doubt that there will be further communiqués from the north in the coming weeks, but for now I put my last pixel to screen as BH3 web wanker and leave you, dear reader, to experience what it was like in the pre-computer age of hash.

Vale Teflon

The Hashers of the northwest raise a glass to Teflon who passed away peacefully last night.
Teflon's first run was with Burnie Hash at Waratah in 2008 and he was named at a subsequent Devonport run with the certainty that his new Hash name "wouldn't stick".
Even though he became progressively debilitated with Motor Neurone disease, he continued to attend various events at Crow's including the last Christmas run, and he also took a soaking in good spirit sporting his trademark broad smile at the waterpistol run in January.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
Here's to Teflon.

It's late in the afternoon on Friday, yet I've not heard from you today. You think that just because you have no job that you can slacken off?

I note that the Socceroos prepared for their tilt at the World Cup by training at high altitude. How do Tasmanian hashers 'train' for Interhash in tropical Malaysia? Head to the coldest part of Tasmania and run around the alpine landscape wearing nothing but a kilt, that's what! At least the beer will be cold.

I know that this event is close to your heart, dear reader, so I am sure that you will absolve the forsaking of a quality Burnie trail in return for a run with the C club.

If you haven't booked and paid by now, don't bother turning up. There'll be no bed, no grog and no food (but if you're like Urang, sleeping in the back of the station wagon in freezing temperatures is no issue).

Must go - someone left the gate open and all the sporrans are out and running amok.

I bet that you didn't see this one coming! Imagine my SURPRISE at being reappointed to the lofty position of Web Wanker for YET ANOTHER YEAR. I CRIED tears of joy at hearing the news; honestly I'm NOT WORTHY.

And so, dear reader, I resign myself to another 52 WEEKS of Friday e-mails, which when seasonally adjusted for absences at Interhash, illness, ANH2011 commitments, computer downtime and general don't-give-a-f*ckedness should equate to about a dozen messages. And so (starting the sentence off with a invariable grammatical particle) the end is here, and so I face the final curtain.

Why staring at household furnishings is important is unclear, however the sentiment is not. For the final time, those nominally in charge of Burnie Hash will mix their last brew, type their last trash, spruik their last skol and, most importantly, hit 'send' on their final e-mail, as Burnie Hash moves into another hashing year with a new breed of mismanagers.

The final fling for the class of oh-nine-ten will be held this Saturday at the Gawler Entertainment Centre (1054 Isandula Rd, Gawler). This magical event will start at 5:00pm with a moon-lit ramble set by Grand Wizened Ratchet, followed by eye of newt and toe of frog, or if you're really lucky some of Knickers' fizzing pasta.

The sorting hat will then be used to anoint those wot dun good during the year (Bolt Error Award, GM's Traditional Award for Excellence in Hashing) from those wot dun craptacular (Cocque Cup, Richard Cranium Award), plus other awards for which the recipients will collect all manner of Urang's cast offs held together with hot glue.

JMs Phay Ray and DT*cough* will then declare all positions vacant (which is more easily done for some than it is for others) before announcing the next batch of bitches in control... I mean witches in control of Burnie Hash.

Bring hat (black and pointy), mug, joke, friend and $10 for bucket and nibbles - bring a plate of something to share and grog for the long haul.

Dear reader

I hope that this humble communication finds you well. You certainly didn't allude to any ailments when you e-mailed me two minutes ago to complain about the lack of 'trash', so I'll assume that you have little else to worry about at this time.

I understand that this week's trail is being set by Chunder. I do hope that the boy has found some visible flour this time; I must say that I have kept an eye out for his special invisible flour at my local inconvenience store, but have found it as elusive as fresh non-bendy/wilted vegetables. Fresh Food People, my sphincter (sorry Dins).

His choice of trail start is also somewhat beguiling; again with the effing boat ramps. I swear that he's doing this on purpose. Apparently it starts from the second boat ramp, but from which end do you count? I know that GonZo says that there are three, so second from either end is still the same, but I swear that those things pop in and out from alternate dimensions - there were never three boat ramps when I was terrorising the neighbourhood.

Trail, of course, starts at 3:00pm, which allows enough time to run, walk or stroll the trail, have a circle, meal and still be home in time for whichever excuse for entertainment starts at 7:30pm (I'm sorry, but unless there's a three metre scarf involved, he's not MY Doctor). Slight fly in the ointment this week, however, as the meal will be at a local hotel, but I'm sure that Speed Hump will arrange for the meals to be pre-ordered and on the table at 6:00pm!

Bring hat, blah, blah, blah.

One week until the AGPU. Just one more of these things to complete and just one more week to be harangued by the Pommie harridan (20/20 is NOT real cricket).

It's hash party central* this weekend, with birthday celebrations, house warmings and hen/stag parties abounding. If you don't end up inebriated this weekend, then you're not really trying (or you've not been invited; sucks to be you).

The molten lava core of this party planet will be at the House of Hump II, with Speed Hump kicking her fully sick house warming off on Saturday night with perhaps scones with jam and cream, followed by charades and maybe a late night cream sherry.

With all this excitement, the Trailmaster has opted for a hangover-friendly jaunt from HoHII on Ridgley Road, starting at 3:00pm. Bring party hat, mug, joke, friend and $10 for Berocca and cold sausage rolls.

Mothers Day. Can there be any more stressful day of the year? A day where the dreams and expectations of mothers remain unreconciled against the reality of unthinking and uncaring fathers and children. You really thought that she wanted those new car mats? Can't understand why tickets to Top Gear Live is met with a shoulder so cold that it's positively glacial?

Live in fear no more, for what more could any mother want on her special day than to head off to a Burnie hash trail?

This year's MD trail is being set by that sensitive, new-age gent BoomBoom and will start from 15 Loongana Place Somerset at the relaxed late afternoon time of 3:45pm (that leaves plenty of time for the little lady to clean up after the terror attack known as 'Dad's roast lunch'.

Bring a white chrysanthemum, hat, mug, joke, friend and $10 for Giggles'-inspired tucker and Ringo's slap-dash brew; bring raffle change for a chance to win an assortment of smelly products in pink boxes.

It is usual that the milestone of 50, for both club and individual, is treated a bit special. Burnie's 50th was a grand affair and gave rise to the infamous chainsaw Mooreville Road Hall massacre. Burnie's 150th was a lower-key but rowdy affair where we trashed* the (then) recently-built Frederick St Reserve clubrooms in Wynyard. Burnie's 250th and 350th were joined by hashers across the north, but the 450th was like visit to the proctologist - something you felt you had to do but all along asking was it really necessary?

Fast forward to 2010 and Burnie reaches its 1050th run. The excitement is palpable as JMs Phay Ray and DT plan a huge event, full of dancing girls, strippers and contortionists (all parts being performed by Ratchet).

The hare for such a big occasion has to be one of vast experience, so senior hasher Ringo has stepped up to the mark (only to be shoved aside at the last minute by Dini - according to the Trailmaster).

Trail starts at 3:00pm from the Burnie Yacht Club, bring a hat, mug, joke and $10 for bucket and three course meal (first two courses are water); bring extra for Chunder's memorabilia raffle.

In true ANZAC spirit the Burnie Hash will be going 'over the top' this Sunday, deep into enemy territory (which is anything east of Ulverstone). It's bully beef and biscuits all round as the pack moves into the stronghold established by Lt. Col. Phay Ray and Lanced Boil Urang at 16 Lyon Ave, Devonport (Gunner A Bit if This advises: from the Burnie direction take the Formby Rd exit off the highway; turn right under the highway towards Spreyton and Lyons Ave is first road on the right. Number 16 is towards the top of the hill.... a large square looking house painted burnt orange with a blue garage and palm trees!! Look for the mobile post code parked in the front drive!! or even read a street map or consult a GPS!!).

The charge against the Berks will be sounded at 3pm; bring yer tin lid, foot rot, billy and ration coupons.

With that Pommy harridan consigned to hard labour in the technological backwater of Dover, there's no one around to harangue me about sending out a Burnie Hash e-mail this week. So I won't do it. I'll type it up for my own amusement, but I WON'T press 'send'.

Not that there's cause to send one out anyway as Flasher has somehow convinced the Trailmaster that a drive through the countryside is the same as putting in the hard yards in pursuit of the hare! What rot! How can one get a sweat up playing tourist in an air-conditioned carriage in order to have it satisfied in beer?

You can't! Unless...

... you own a Jaguar, in which case there's a fair chance that the oil will have burned away and you'll be pushing two tonnes of British metal to the nearest mechanic. Unless...

... your name is Urang, in which case the lack of oil is hardly going to be an issue worthy of ceasing to drive the thing.

If you insist on being part of this Gispert-forsaken attempt at vehicular hashing, you should present yourselves at Ulverstone Maccas by 9:00am this Sunday. Bring your tweed driving jacket, goggles and money for fuel (human and combustion engine).

Will hare Speed Hump fare any better as the Easter Sunday pack assembles for a 3:00pm 'on' from the NEW house of Hump 1042 Ridgley Highway, Ridgley?

Hashers should assemble in their Easter bonnets, with all the frills upon... them, also bringing along mug, friend, joke and $10 for brew and burgers; bring extra coins on the off chance that Chunder has managed to pinch next door's Easter eggs for the wraffle.

Remember, Easter isn't just about chocolate; it's the time of the year that Catholics give thanks that Jesus was crucified and not stung to death by killer bees.

Where has the first quarter of this year gone? I know I put it down somewhere, but I just can't seem to put my hand on it at the moment (probably because I'm at work and it would get me fired).

Speaking of Wimbledon, which I wasn't, hare GonZo Gonzales is looking to relive her past tennis glories by setting trail starting from the Burnie Tennis Club. Fifteen, love (which I think is Tiger Wood's score at the moment).

Trail starts at 5:00pm for the last time this summer season (sob); bring a hat, grunt, mug, grunt, joke, grunt, and $10 for bucket and cucumber sandwiches (or is that cricket?). Grunt. Bring extra for a chance to see Chunder's forehand volley.

This week's Burnie hash will be a Truly memorable trail set by A Bit of This from the Upper Natone Forestry Reserve.

It will feature low branches to annoy the 'two legs', dead smelly things to roll around in and hopefully a few scraps that can be scooped up off the ground before A Bit of This growls that you're all getting too fat.

On will be called at 5:00pm, but be prepared for impending darkness while on trail.

Bring a hat, mug, black arm band and $10 for food and bucket. As is Burnie Hash tradition, there will be a wee spot of Drambuie to mark Truly's time on trail.

Truly a Cloud Nine Hash Hound

It is with a deal of sadness that we mark the passing of Truly the long dog; cat food napper, sausage dog impersonator and faithful hash hound of A Bit of This.

Truly started life as a doberman, but as legend has it hashed so much that her legs simply wore out.

Truly's 18th birthday was celebrated in October 2009, making her approximately 85 in human years or 126 in hasher years.

In true Burnie hash tradition, Truly's passing will be marked with a Drambuie, with perhaps just a pint or two of Guinness.

Truly joins other notable hash hounds with the Cloud Nine Hash pack, such as Maverick, Fred the Transexual Hash Hound, Boo and Hamish.

A collection will be taken up to have Truly stuffed and mounted on a skateboard in an effort to stop A Bit of This scarpping off back to ol' Blighty.

He's big. He's bold, He's beautif… he's big. He's Boom Boom and it's his birthday (soonish), so this Sunday has been declared BBBB - 'Boom Boom's Birthday Bash'.

Hare Giggles will be playing hostess with the mostest lipstick (doesn't she always?) with a run starting at 5:00pm from Calder Rd, Wynyard. (yes, I know that the address is a bit vague, but that's all the Trailmaster would supply me with - might be somewhere near the alum cliffs track).

Otto's Grotto sounds like a place for dirty old Bavarians to hang out and offer a 'free service' to unwary passers-by.

It's totally appropriate therefore that Burnie Hash, well-known for its love of sauerkraut and magazines with sticky pages, is gathering there this Sunday for a traditional hash, starting at 5:00pm.

Okay, so I'm drawing a long bow with all that, however it's late in the day and I'm too eager to get to the next bit. You know the drill anyway; DT hare, bring hat, mug, $10, blah, blah, Chunder raffle blah.

On 5th February I reported that Trakka's HOFT would be taking in Allum Cliffs Track.

I was later rebuked, in print, by Trailmaster A Bit of This, stating that the Allum Cliffs were in Kingston, while the HOFT would be taking the Allum Track.

Fair cop. I often make things up and even more often get wrong details that have been correctly reported to me.

However, imagine my elation when reviewing the blog of our friends at DickHead hash to find a reminder about the HOFT, complete with link to Allum Cliffs in the Great western Tiers!

Those who know me can well imagine the smug look of satisfaction on my face.

I look forward to a comment on the blog shortly from you-know-who (not Who), for it's the little victories that count.

According to JPY there is a fourth molecule in CO2. This might go some way to explaining the inexplicable; why women need so many pairs of shoes, why only males know how to use the remote control, and why this Sunday's Valentine's Day Breakfast is at 5:00pm.

Granny Hump, failed raconteur of Love Potion numbers 1 through 8, has declared that this Sunday's Valentines Breakfast can wait until after lunch, with all love birds and bush turkeys directed to assemble in their bedroom finest* at the soon to be former House of Hump at 5:00pm on Sunday 14 February.

Breakfast will be provided, so I'd probably start the day with a solid roast.

I can now confirm that conscience has a physical presence in the form of a small Pom driving in a mobile postcode delivering prompts from afar using electronic mail as its medium.

Trailmaster A Bit of This would like it known that Burnie Hash this Sunday places its faith and safety in the dubious hands of Black Trakka for another HOFT along the Alum Cliffs Track. A Bit of This would like it known that HOFTers should meet at 10:00am at the 'train park' in Deloraine. Bring along everything you need for a day trek, then bring along everything you need in case you get lost and have to spend the night out in the wilderness. A Bit of This did not want that last bit known, but I thought it prudent.

I am reliably informed that the r*n starts at or around 5:00pm. Now, have I capitulated and am now towing the company line, or am I still being the rebellious bastard that everyone knows me to be and the start time is REALLY 5:30pm? Hmmmm. Sucks to be you and not know.

What a big week in hashing it's been. Normal Monday run with H5, Full Moon/Harem on Wednesday, drowned last night with Chardonnay, then off to Bruny Island this weekend for the ultra marathon!

This coming week H5 is off to the wilds of New Town with Hands On, or you can head out to Middle Tree Road for some H4 contemplation with Buddha. Harem's r*n on Wednesday is a secret, but known to be somewhere out off the South Arm Highway. Then on Thursday it'll be Top Deck's virgin hare from her place at Rosetta.

Monday and Thursday runs start at 6:30, whereas gash hash starts at the ladylike time of 7:00pm. No confusion there.

I think that's all I had to relay this week.

Those travelling in 2WD vehicles will need to park at the turnoff and walk the final five kilometres (allow about an hour) along the Kelly Basin Road to the Bird River Bridge. The road follows the alignment of the railway line and so it provides level, easy walking although it can be wet underfoot. Those travelling in 4WD vehicles can drive this final section of Kelly Basin Road. The track is quite narrow in parts so please travel slowly and watch for other vehicles.

It's the early bird that catches the worm and it's the early hasher who catches a ride to the last HOFT* of 2009.

No sleep ins SATURDAY morning, for HOFT-meister GonZo expects her tour party to be at the Bird River Bridge by 10:00am (that equates to about a 7:00am start from Burnie!).

From Queenstown drive south along the sealed Mt Jukes Road for 29 km. At this point the road surface changes to gravel and it becomes the Kelly Basin Road. Follow the Kelly Basin Road for 11 km to the Bird River Bridge turnoff. It will take approximately one hour to travel from Queenstown to this point.

I don't know what that means, but GonZo wrote and I dare not miss sending it out.

Bring all the gear necessary for a day walk in the Tasmanian wilderness (or a trail in the Dial set by Bastard and FC). Also bring money for a Queeny countery afterwardsy.

One might normally expect hare Ratchet to be readying himself for this Sunday's Burnie hash outing, however word has reached my shell-likes that Ratchet will be far too busy on his ride on metal post munching machine to set trail! So, flushed with the success of her barely grown over virgin hare, the lovely Knickers will be stepping up to the mark. Incroyable!

That's the good news - the bad news is that this leaves Ratchet to try to concoct fizzy pasta without a recipe.

Hashers and leftover pirates should head to 1054 Isandula Rd, Gawler, for a 5:00pm start, even though we all know that it won't start until 5:30pm because nature abhors a vacuum and hash abhors punctuality.

Bring a hat, stuffed parrot, mug ya-ho, and five pieces of gold; bring extra for Captain Chunder unless you want to walk the plank.

Head to Guide Falls, Ridgley, and look for signs. Doesn't say what signs; just, you know, signs. Signs of the second cumming. Visible signs of aging. You know, signs.

Vague hares Phay Ray and Urang may be setting trail somewhere around there. The start time's a bit vague too - I keep getting told that it's 5:00pm, but I'm sure it's more like 5:30, or even 6:00. Starting later is the new black. Vogue.

What's not vague is that you should take with you a hat, mug, joke, friend and $10 for food and bucket. Bringing change for the raffle is a bit vague, but then so are the prizes.

This weekend is fraught with danger. Never mind that Urang has spent all week trying to recreate a Hawaiian volcano in the pool room or that the hares have set trail over hot coals - the big danger comes from the combination of grass skirts, a fire, and Herr Flick.

Hashers looking for a lei should assemble at the West Mooreville Rd cat/chicken/moose farm this Saturday at 1:30pm for a 2pm start. Afterwards, hashers will don all manner of clothing that looks no different after being vomited on, and dine on Hawaiian cuisine (anything with pineapple added). The night will no doubt finish with a dip in the natural hot springs, although those words may not appear in the correct order.

Then on Sunday (for all those masochists), join 1,000 hashing wanna-bes for the 25th Burnie Ten. Will Mice Boxx-Wanker be there? More importantly, will Dini be there at the half way point? Afterwards, head back to Ringo and Dini's for a wind down and a top up.

I would like to acknowledge that last week's e-mail, which implied that Knickers would not be setting trail, was not entirely factual. The e-mail claimed that Knickers would be mowing lawns and trimming edges while the trail would magically appear. Clearly this was not the case and I apologise to Knickers and to the readership for such a misleading statement. The e-mail should have said that experienced hare Knickers would be setting trail, while the surrounding airspace would be filled with flying pigs.

This Sunday the air will be filled with petrol fumes and the sound of engines roaring to life!

Ordinarily, I'd be referring to the annual 1000km race at Mt Panorama, but in this instance its Knickers mowing the lawns and whipper-snipping the edges, while amazingly somewhere out back little blobs of flour are magically appearing in the form of a trail. I don't know how she does it.

Trail starts from 1054 Isandula Rd, Gawler, at a time not specified to me by the Trailmaster, so I will unilaterally declare that time to be (race due to finish at 4:30pm, catch 15 minutes of highlights before being abused even more, plus ten minutes to get changed, 10 minutes to pack the car, 25 minutes to drive at break-neck speed from West Mooreville Rd to Gawler) 5:30pm.

Bring blue or red hat, mug, joke, friend, chequered flag, and $10 for bucket and fizzy pasta; extra for raffle.

Why did the moon cross the sky?

Our indigenous brothers would say that it's because Yhi (the sun) wants a bit of lunar action wink wink nudge nudge if you know what I mean but Bahloo (moon) is having none of that thank you very much so they chase each other across the sky. Others would say that it's because the moon is strapped to the back of a cosmic chicken, but you can't see the chicken because it's gone to the dark side, but these people can be discounted as loonies. Quite frankly, I couldn't care less. All this crossing here to get to there; why aren't people happy with where they are standing? Big deal, so you're a fish and you crossed the road or you're a fish with feathers and a beak saying 'look at me - a swimming chicken'. You're not fooling me, squid breath.

This week's Burnie Hash coincides with this month's full moon which coincides with the start of daylight saving which is all too late for someone who only had the power reconnected yesterday.

Ergo, hare Ringo is setting the joint Burnie/LoonR Hash run this Sunday from Romaine Reserve (off Amanda Ct, Burnie) starting at the seasonally adjusted time of 5:00pm.
