HI the signs were more plentiful than the moose for me. As the pictures are large I will only send 2. Unusal chip dump.
Merry Xmas. Braved the storms and dashed over the mountains to get Ralph and returned in one piece. Got lucky with the storms. And survived the Sacremento multiple highway splits right side or left side exit its a dash if you don't know! Alittle scary.
Merry Christmas

HHH Hash Trash 21st December 2007

Twas the Friday before Christmas,
And while feeling quite frail,
I've still sent the usual crap,
Your dose of hash mail.

With the festive season impending like a visit from the mother-in-law, Burnie Hash is taking a week off from its usual schedule. Our next r*n will be a POSH stroll in Burnie on NYE - details next week.

To all our merry band of hashers (few) and closet hashers (legion), particularly our missing Ghanan friends Fab and Back Door, we wish all the best for Christmas and look forward to seeing you back on trail soon.

Launceston Hash House Harriers will be celebrating its
30th anniversary with a commemorative run on Thursday 28th February 2008. The run will be set by one of the original Gang of Five members, Neil 'Derbs' Derbyshire at its original location in Legana (Launceston). More details closer to the date.

Christmas Trip Notes

Time and distance conspired against the traditional card this year. I am in the United States  visiting family for the Christmas season.
Currently looking forward to Ralph arriving on Wednesday in San Francisco. I may have to wait until Friday before we connect, plans to go and pick him up are slowly sliding under a storm seige, 3 storms in a row. Weather in Reno has been very cold not breaking 30F for over 10 days, rose to 1C or 2C most days after -8/9 C start. I visited a friend in Maine, the north eastern part of the US and joined in the 'leaf peepers' fall tourism influx. Mountain sides covered with patches of red, gold, yellow and green were spectacular.

Managed to see a moose in the wild but it took a lot of looking. Visited many graveyards took photos and captured an 'Orb' at one. 'Orbs' are round balls of light/ colour floating in the picture. Orbs are spirits - ghosts and a red orb is an angry one! You can' see them but cameras and flashes pick them up. Etiquette for visting a cemetary is to ask permission to enter and when leaving it is important to say thank you and tell any active spirits they must remain in the cementary and not follow you out.

Back to Christmas and it is very likely it will be a white one in Reno which will be nice as Reno in winter is predominately brown. Snow from an earlier fall on Dec 7 is still with us, the many hills are frosted in white and look lovely against the brillant blue skies Reno can get in the winter.

After Christmas Ralph and I will be attempting a road trip up to Seattle and maybe Canada, weather will be a factor in this endeavour. We will be away from computers for about 3-4 weeks. I request that emails be delayed until I am active on the computer again.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a grand New Year in 2008 with health and joy abounding.

Merry Christmas

Paula and Ralph (in absentia)

HHH Hash Trash 14th December 2007

You'd better watch out!  You'd better not cry!  You'd better not pout, I'm telling you why…
Satan Claws is coming to town!

As shares in tinsel, fake snow and beer continue their upward trend, Burnie hashers gather underneath the cameltoe for a festive jaunt around Burnie, before exchanging gifts that are, remarkably, nearly all the same.

Santas should gather at King Komm, North Pole, Burnie, for a 5:30pm ho ho.  Bring a plate of Christmas goodies to share and a wrapped gift to the value of $10.

Special appearance by a visiting southern hasher, although on reflection it's not that special.

H5 will be celebrating its 1400th run on Monday 17th December, coinciding with its JMs Christmas Run.

The run starts at 6:30pm from the Hobart Regatta Pavilion, Lower Domain and will cost $30.  The theme is 'mixed fruit' and everyone must bring a $5 pressie for Santa.

HHH Hash Trash 7th December 2007

It's HOFT time again - break out the Al Gore-Tex, fill up your camel toe hydration packs and make sure your medical insurance is up to date, for Dyke - he of the 'lets take the coastal route back to Sisters Beach' - is leading another band of suckers, umm, willing hashers* on a trek from a place unknown to Shearwater, via Morelands Beach and Hawley.
* which excludes those taking blow-up dolls to Hobart for the MRA toy run
I have conflicting information, but the most recent to hand is that everyone is to meet at Dint and Koff's place - Church Street, East Devonport - at 11:00am.

BYO everything - refreshments to be had at Shearwater, before transport back to East Devonport.

HHH Burnie H3 Christmas r*n

Those keen of eyesight and lacking in productive things to do on a Friday have noticed that the date for the Burnie H3 Christmas r*n was incorrectly reported as 23rd December.

The Burnie H3 Christmas r*n will start at 5:30pm on Sunday 16th December from the offices of King Kommunications, where we will once again try to hide as many beer cans in the office as possible (Phay Wray has to have something to do during the day, other than pick fault with my e-mails).  Dress festively, such as your one-size-fits-no-one Santa suit.

Bring a gift to the value of $10 (this year's DickHead hash theme is lacy underwear) and a plate of food to share.

On! On!
Grizzled Elf

HHH Hash Trash 30th November 2007

It's getting to that time of year when that jolly fat man with a beard visits, eats your cake, drinks your port, then departs, leaving behind something that you didn't know you wanted and probably never will.

Speaking of Slack Mac - he is this week's hare and will be setting trail from, or nearby, or totally nowhere near his new house in Purtons Road, Gawler (is this the start of another Penguin Hash House Harriers-style takeover?) starting at 5:30pm. There will be signs from Allisons Road, so head to Gawler, take the right fork, resist the urge to turn on to Isandula Road, keep going toward North Motton and look for Allisons Road on the right. I'd Google you a map, but that particular bit of technology is failing me at the moment.

Bring a hat, mug, joke and friend; bring sunglasses for looking at very white rooms; bring a spade to dig up various botanical specimens*; bring $10 for food and bucket; bring extra cash for a ticket in a Knickers raffle where the prize is one of Ratchet's prize bottles of 2002 Chateau le Gopener fruity lexia.

------
Saturday 1st December is the date for Kinickers' as pre-Christmas soirée. The festivities start from mid-afternoon; BYO barbecue meat and grog (not barbecue grog, just grog).

HHH Hash Trash 23rd November 2007

This week we move from hareless trail to hairless hare as Ringo, the master of the never-ending erection*, sets a post-election misdirection from the Mooreville Road chicken farm (448 Mooreville Road, Burnie), starting at 5:30pm.

The Paul Keating Memorial Day Spa is hot and bubbling**, so bring along bathers and a towel.
Also bring a hat, mug, friend, joke and $10 for food and bucket; bring extra for Knickers' Your Rights At Work leftovers raffle.  Each and every drink coaster a collectors item.

* nothing to do with blue pills, everything to do with unclad walls
** expect beans for hash nosh that evening

Sheesh, ya pay top dollar for high quality flour and it doesn’t even last 10 years…Buggar!! I’ll go out to Bass Bakery at lunch time and give them one hell of a serve.

Where's Wally

Dear Wally

On 18th November 2007 a pack of Burnie hashers arrived at Camdale to follow trail set by hare Where's Wally. Try as they might, they could not find trail. Perhaps it had been washed away in the ten years since it was set. Come to think of it, what proof do we have that you even set it?

As Trailmaster, I have been awarded the Hashit in absentia for having the allowed first r*n without trail.

HHH Hash Trash 16th November 2007

Ten years ago on Sunday, hare Where's Wally set out with a bag of flour and with visions in his head of setting the best Burnie hash r*n ever.  The planning was meticulous; the loops, the switch backs, the checks - even a rare double alpha just to bamboozle the likes of Bastard and Slack Mac.  The day was fine and clear, while the sausages and hamburgers were lovingly hand made by local virgins.  The stars were in alignment and WW's horoscope said 'sit back and accept the accolades'.

Unfortunately, other forces were at work; Ringo had to wash his hair, Bastard had booked into have his back waxed, Slack Mac was giving a lecture on nuclear physics at the Gispert Memorial Lecture Theatre.  The fates even arranged for Pooh to be born 11 years earlier that day just to keep Grizzly off trail.  So it transpired that the best trail ever was never followed.

Until this Sunday.  The spirit of Where's Wally's trail lives and will be followed from 5:30pm this Sunday, starting at the end of Scarf Street in Camdale (before it goes up the hill into the golf club).

Bring a hat, mug, friend, joke and $10 for food and bucket; bring extra for Knickers' much-improved-prizes-since-that-whinger-Grizzly-left raffle.

------
Knickers is having a party on Saturday 1st December as hacienda de la Ratckers. Excitement can hardly be contained, as Knickers unveils her latest purchase - her very own turbo-charged, dual microphone, widescreen karaoke kontraption!  Be still, my beating heart.  The festivities start from mid-afternoon; BYO barbecue meat and grog (not barbecue grog, just grog).  Knickers doesn't want me to tell you that there is inside accommodation for the exclusive inner circle early birds, so I won't.  This is a test run for the official Isandula Idol on February 2.
I knew that there had to be some upside to moving south.

HHH Hash Trash 2nd November 2007

Normally on a Sunday evening our hashing brethren (and sisteren) respectfully moderate their incohol intake for fear of facing a Monday morning with the mother (and father) of all hangovers.

Not this week.  While we southerners toil away on Monday, you slack northerners will be celebrating Recreation Day (surely the weakest excuse for a public holiday ever imagined - I shall campaign for its removal).  With Sunday guilt-free, hare Knickers has planned a big night out at 1054 Isandula Road, Gawler, followed by a big sleep in.

There has been some suggestion that Knickers (Knicko?) is planning Isandula Idol - any excuse for her to hog a microphone.

HHH Hash Trash 19th October

The house lights have dimmed and the speakers are crackling out the latest Chas E Blanks blockbuster advertisement.  Everything is in readiness for the big 2007 Burnie 10 weekend.

A cast of around 50 megastars from around the state are about to assemble under director Phay Ray and best boy Urang for an on location shoot in the Ridgley area.  The cast bus leaves at 3:00pm from the Pair-of-mounts studios at 448 West Mooreville Road, Burnie (see map - http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&ll=-41.075631,145.848355&spn=0.008072,0.014462&z=16&om=1&msid=105910016825567358134.00043cbdd22de2ba9b11f)

After the location shoot the cast will assemble at the studios from 7pm for the red carpet premiere and an evening of galah entertainment.

The following day will see the final crowds scenes shot as our intrepid actors recreate the running of the bullshit in the Burnie 10, followed by an after party back at the studios.

Scant details are on the blog (http://burniehhh.blogspot.com/2007/08/2007-burnie-ten-weekend-20th-21st.html).

Her former* master, Speed Hump, is setting forth from the first bridge on Oonah Road, Highclere, with offerings of flour and the promise of a burnt offering lovingly dropped on the floor to be eagerly snuffled up. Burnie hashers are invited to assist Fred's spirit on it's heavenly hunt of hare by meeting at 5:00pm EDST to chant 'on on' and generally shuffle around the vicinity. Après hash will be held at the House of Hump.

Bring a $10 for food and bucket, hat, mug, friend, friendly piece of wood, wooden joke and extra money for the joke of a raffle.

* a spirit has no master; a spirit is lucky to even be around wherever there is a hasher

The usher is tearing tickets and the chewing gum is being cleared off the seats as we prepare for the Burnie Ten weekend on 20th October.  The casting couch has been given a good work-over, but there are a few parts left for talented or desperate actors keen to be part of the red carpet premiere.

Details are on the blog (http://burniehhh.blogspot.com/2007/08/2007-burnie-ten-weekend-20th-21st.html).  Register soon and go in the draw for one of Knickers' amazing raffle prizes - an offer too good to refuse*!

* the offer 'too good to refuse' refers to the chance that you might not win a prize, which is better than actually winning one

2007 Burnie Ten Weekend - 20th-21st October

Going to the Flicks

Burnie H3 is rolling out the red carpet for hashers from around the state attending the premiere screening of this season’s action-comedy-p*rno blockbuster – the Burnie 10 Weekend!

On Saturday 20th October, celebrity guests will assemble from 1:00pm at the 20th Century Fux studios – located at 448 West Mooreville Road, Burnie – for a promotional tour of rural Burnie at 3:00pm, followed by a press junket in the media tent.

That evening the stars will adjourn to the luxurious Caesar’s Palace (hey, we had to work the columns in somewhere), where they will dine on a gourmet three-course meal (popcorn, Jaffas and Choc Tops) and luxuriate in the Fay Wray Memorial Day Spa.

Celebrities are invited to come along dressed in character, even if it’s fourth extra from the left in the last crowd scene of Rocky XXIV.

On Sunday 21st October we will be holding auditions for the lead in the new film “Mad Dogs and Hashermen”, with a 11:15am curtain call from Wilson Street, Burnie. Afterwards, head up to the venue for a warm down in the pool.

For those travelling to Burnie for this weekend and wishing to do things on the cheap, there is a paddock available for those who don't mind a spot of camping.

Cost:

Saturday Run - run, food, hash bucket and badge ... $15
T-shirt – long-sleeve, printed front and back ... $15
Carbo Feast - three course meal and some drinks ... $25
Post-Burnie 10* - food, hash bucket, swim ... $12
* you will need to register separately for the Burnie 10 – see http://www.burnieten.com.au/ for info
OR
THE LOT ... $60

Next R*n - No. 913 - HOFT #6

Sunday 7th October 2007, 8:30am EDST start
Hare: Dint
On on: meet at McDonalds Burnie car park (click here for map)
Hash cash: no charge - BuyYourOwn drinks and meal
Bring: walking gear, lunch

HOFT #6 is a walk to Mt. Murchison
Walk length: 4 Kilometres
Time: 4 hours return

One of the most attractive photographic opportunities on the West Coast both on the way and upon reaching summit, not an easy walk/climb for the faint hearted, but none the less very much worth the effort. The track is accessible from the Anthony Road that runs from Tullah to Queenstown and is signposted (but not all that clearly) and is an exceptional climb through a variety of ancient alpine forests that display an exciting array of floral types. The transition of vegetative types from start to summit is remarkable and changes almost with every step and from season to season with the alpine autumn being an event to behold with the changing colours of the deciduous beech. Not an easy walk but to be recommended to the serious walker.

HHH Hash Trash 5 October

Motor-head Dint knows that the first weekend in October is all about 'The Mountain'.  This year however, Dint has swapped Mount Panorama for a panoramic mountain - Mt. Murchison - as he leads a bunch of hashing old farts through the cutting, down the dipper and flat-strap down the back straight.  Burnie Hashers, always happy to be mountain men and mountain women, will be joining HOFT #6 as an official BH3 jaunt.

HOFTs are asked to grid up at McDonalds Burnie car park by 8:30am EDST for the starters flag to fall at 9:00am.
The trek will be followed by a drink and meal at Rosebery, in time to watch the finish of the grate race.
------
The house lights are starting to dim and the rustle of Malteser bags is rising to a crescendo as we prepare for the Burnie Ten weekend on 20th October.

HHH Hash Trash 28 September 2007

Dini, President of the local AFL (Anti-Football League) has declared this Sunday's Burnie Hash R*n to be a footbrawl-free zone.  This means that Speed Hump is forbidden to discuss the intricacies of Port Adelaide coach Mark William's interchange policy, Ratchet will be silenced in his diatribe against the white maggots (who no longer wear white but are still maggots) , and Tals will be forcibly restrained from singing the theme song of the Geelong Football Club.

With those stipulations, anyone still remotely interested in turning up should be prepared at 3:30pm to search for trail from the Oldina Forestry Reserve, Nursery Road, Oldina (see http://www.burniehhh.blogspot.com/ for map if required).

Bring a hat, mug, joke, friend, $10 for brew and tucker, plus change for rigged raffle.  Bring footy jumper at your own peril.

Burnie Hash Intelligence has issued a level-tangerine warning after reports that Osama Bin Ratchet has been laundering his tea towels and polishing his scud.  O.B.Ratchet has long had his eye on Phay Ray's twin towers and he sees this week's BH3 R*n 911 is an ideal opportunity for him to have one off the terror wrist.

Hare DT will be looking to thwart O.B.Ratchet's plans with a deftly executed trail of mass disruption, starting at 3:30pm from 26 Stirling Street, Hillcrest 7320.

HHH Hash Trash September 14

Direct from the club that has bought us le Coque Cup, le Spa Bath and le Sbians comes le Tour de Pisse - two hours of walking, running or riding interspersed with drinking, drinking or drinking.

Tour participants are to register at le Oz Rock Inn before 2pm and undergo a drug test; anyone failing to have enough drugs in their system will have them administered by a qualified bartender.  At 2pm the starter's gun will go off (something to do with le Stick Movie) and the pack will compete for the prestigious yellow leader's jersey, up until such time as Grizzly gets hold of it and stretches it so that it will not fit anyone else.

This will be followed by a presentation dinner and enough phoney French accents to fill an entire series of 'Allo 'Allo.

Cost is $50, which covers whatever Tracka reckons is a fair thing.
Bring: bike shorts, spare pair of socks for bike shorts, drugs and thirst.

Police have released a photo (below) of two suspects wanted for questioning after the 'gateway panels' at the western end of Cooee were vandalised on Sunday.

HHH Hash Trash September 7

This week's delightful hare is the lovely Tals, who will be settling a charming little trail from her enchanting temporary abode at Ocean Vista. Unless she is too distressed from her Launceston 1700th ordeal, in which case it will be that horrid hare, the irascible Slack Mac settling a distressing trail from the slum-end of Burnie.

Either way, the r*n will start at 3:30pm Sunday 9th September from Frederick Street, Ocean Vista (last house on the right).

Bring a hat, mug, friend and a joke. Bring extra money to be ripped off by winning first AND third prize in the raffle and STILL not getting anything half decent, like one of Ratchet's cast offs*.

* Ratchet has a habit of getting rid of the good stuff and keeping the crap for his wine wanker buddies

HHH Hash Trash August 31

Chunder has been battling the lurgy for weeks and not even GonZo's tender ministrations and job list minimisation to just the really difficult jobs has brought him back to health.  Understandably, Chunder has passed in his 'sick note' and will not be setting this week's trail, which is just as well as the chimney needs scrubbing from the inside.

Instead, Chunder's twin brother, Grizzly, has stepped up to the mark, foregoing the traditional one Sunday a year where he can justly rest so that he can set the 'Father of all trails'.

The r*n will start at 3:30pm Sunday 2nd September from the Romaine Reserve car park.  Even Slack Mac knows where that is.

Bring a hat, mug, friend from Brisbane and a joke.  Bring extra money to be ripped off by winning first prize in the raffle and getting wrapping paper while third prize wins a bottle of wine.  Worth every cent.

Waratah weekend pics

Pictures from the 900th Run weekend at Waratah are now up on the Burnie H3 Flickr site (http://www.flickr.com/photos/21624049@N00/sets/).  Incriminating photos have not been uploaded and can be purchased for exorbitant prices.

HHH Hash Trash August 24

We haven't had a lot of success when it comes to letting Devonport hashers loose as hares for Burnie H3 trails, so it is with some trepidation that we let Dyke lead us into the Meander Valley as trail blazer for Hashing Old Farts Trek #5.  The plan is to walk to Meander Falls - about 8km with a reasonable climb.

HOFTs are asked to meet at Mackeys Royal Hotel car park, 161 Gilbert Street, Latrobe, at 8:30am, before setting off to the trek starting point for a 10:00am 'off'.

It is expected (hoped) that the trek will conclude at around 3:00pm, from where the pack will adjourn to Latrobe for de-brief and a meal.

Bring everything you may need for a walk of this type.  According to the discovertasmania web site, you should take: sturdy walking shoes or boots, clothes to suit the weather of the day, raincoat, woollen jumper or fibre pile jacket, thermal leggings or shorts rather than long cotton trousers or jeans (cotton becomes soaked in wet weather and will cool the body), warm hat or beanie, warm gloves, waterproof trousers, gaiters (if you have them), lunch and drink, map.

See http://www.touringtasmania.info/meander_falls.htm for a description of the walk.

HHH Hash Trash August 17

Second only to Isandula Road, the farm at 64 River Road, Wynyard has been a regular home to Burnie Hash. Well, maybe not a home - more like a frequent public toilet.

That will soon change when Nanna Marj and Blue ups stumps to seek fortune and randy miners in the heartland of Western Australia. Hare Lone Arranger will be sending the pack on a reminiscing tour of all the best runs set around and through the farm (which really just a fancy way of saying we've run it to death and any trail set on Sunday will look the same as any previous). Start time is 3:30pm.

Dickhead of the week - R*n 905

DT
For trying to lure little boys into her car by offering sweeties

Ecology for Daisy

Some Burnie hashers would no doubt remember the two white 'Westies', part of the Patsy and Haggis clan, running freely around the Penguin Caravan Park on one of their holidays up north.

For those who remember, I post the following...

Ecology for a dog

Daisy, a Westhighland Terrier of great character, died tragically when on a mission from her home at Bellingham Estate Winery.

Much loved and cherished pack member of Patsy, Haggis and Bobby and generous friend of Slack Mac and Tals. She was ever alert to danger and ready with a bark.

Vale Daisy

Daisy moved on to that kennel in the sky some weeks ago, but it was only today that I found the 'ecology' penned in her memory. I should have some photos in the archive; if they can be located I will post one at a later date.

Run reports for the Waratah weekend

Run 900 – Waratah Winterhash

Venue: Waratah.
Hares: Urang and Phay Ray.
Pack: Many.

Gypsies Pee Wee and Saturn, and later A Bit of This, arrived at Waratah Friday to set up their camper vans. They woke on Saturday morning to find the town smothered with snow, with conditions that icy they believed there would be only three participants in Winterhash this year. Peewee pleaded to the Hash Monk to do something, so A Bit of This said “No worries” and waved her magic cigarette in the air. Immediately it began to rain, and soon the snow and ice had been washed from the roads. But ABoT’s powers are not easily leashed, and she was not able to stop the rain. At least, she reasoned, if I had not been here there would have been gale force winds, temperatures in the minus 40s and Hashers freezing to death on the r*n. SES officers would have been collecting flash frozen Hashers in various poses as they froze in mid-stride. Thanks be to ABoT.

Late on Saturday morning other Hashers arrived and found places to park in the hotel mud bath car park. ABoT, still feeling guilty, invited them into her van for a port but eventually found that she had gained a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the most people assembled in a camper van drinking port and wishing they were home in front of the fire.

Hashers began negotiating for the best room in the hotel, with Pioneer changing rooms to get the absolute best one, only to find later that it was above the bar and was noisy all night. A procession of people tracked mud up the stairs as the moved into their rooms.

The time came for the r*n. Urang tried to brief the crowd but true Hashers don’t listen to briefings and there was much “What’s going on?” as a procession of cars took the mob a few km away and dumped them into the original Dead Centre of town. With a cry of “On On”, the r*n started. The small group of r*nners soon disappeared into the distance, leaving a large group of stragglers mooching along in the rain.

Trail followed the road back towards town for a km or so before turning left into a dirt road along the edge of a lake. It then headed into bush where some straggly bushes tore at legs leaving plenty of scratches and giving the leeches a good start. Trail then emerged onto another dirt road following a fence line. Here the Hashers had a choice.
R*n on the narrow strip of solid ground on the left and get torn to shreds on the barbed wire.
R*n on the even narrower strip of solid ground on the right and get torn to shreds by the shrubbery.
R*n on the open and much wider section between these extremes and alternately get trapped in the mud or drowned in the puddles.

However even good bits like this had to end and soon the Hashers encountered Phay Ray with a car full of drinks and chocolate. Most r*nners r*n o, although some did stop for a sip and to say G’day you bitch! The stragglers, though, like any excuse to stop, and had to be forcibly moved on by Phay Ray after eating and drinking everything in sight.

Trail now followed an undulating button grass plain before emerging back onto the road and an HHH sending them back to the cars. The r*nners arrived cold and wet, with long waits ahead of them for the stragglers holding all car keys. Fortunately a few had keys and a car shuttle soon had the FRB’s back at the hotel.

Now it came to pass that even the stragglers emerged from the scrub and shuffled back to the cars, slower than Brown’s cows. A few drivers came along and picked up the better looking women, leaving the rest to fare for themselves. Way behind was Tracker, who had become tired of standing in the rain waiting for Tinsel and the car keys. He did a second lap of the trail, hoping to catch up with them, only to find they had taken a short cut to the road after the piss stop. He caught the stragglers at the car park after r*nning the course twice.

Back at the hotel, Ringo valiantly tried to run a hash circle, but was overwhelmed by peripheral circles as everyone excitedly bullshitted about their prowess on the r*n. A lot of people were made to have a drink before being sent to their rooms to prepare for the evening’s festivities.

There were lots of festivities. Ask Chewy, who out-festivitied the lot of them. Ask Gerardine (Noël) and Mabel, both of whom developed shagger’s back without the shagging. Ask Knickers, who hogged the microphone all night and promised Ratchet she wouldn’t have enough voice left to talk on Sunday, but then reneged. Ask anyone except Bastard and Ratchet, who retired early.

R*n 901 Winterhash Recovery R*n

Hare: Urang

After the revelry of the previous night, hotel management were amazed to find a queue outside the dining room door at least ¾ hour before opening time. When it did open, a wave of people surged in, overwhelming the single slice toaster and one egg cooker, but eventually everyone was fed and starting to look forward to their recovery r*n. All except the one who weren’t, and there were many of them! Ask Chewy!

Many people had to go home, but a reasonable pack assembled in the rain for the r*n. When “On On” was called, Ratchet was already part way along trail, only warming up, you see, and accidentally finding trail. Trail went up a side street and back along behind the pub, with Ratchet calling the pack on. A strange thing happened here. Only a few people took advantage of the big hash opportunity, with the majority opting to follow trail the long way round.

Ballpoint and the Inlet caught up with Ratchet, taking turns to find trail and lose it again. To keep warm in the cold wind and rain they jogged at times, but found this got them too far ahead of those despicable Stragglers.

Trail trespassed through a local’s back yard, over his back fence and up a hill where it rejoined a road leading back to the centre of town. Trail was lost for some time near the lake in the middle of town, but Ballpoint was blithely unaware of this as he raced past a false trail sign and continued to the end of the street where he miraculously encountered trail again. In the meantime the confusion further back allowed some of the Stragglers to catch up until Inlet found trail and led the pack towards Ballpoint.

Along the way they saw a strange looking local in r*nning clothes, legs purple with the cold, fishing in the creek running into the lake. This person answers to the name of FC, but the locals don’t know much about him.

Trail followed the lake, crossed the road past some tourist traps which trapped some Hashers, and finished at the top of a cliff overlooking a waterfall. Expressing great surprise, Ballpoint wandered down to the bottom to try to figure out how the waterfall worked, while the remainder in dribs and drabs wandered back to the pub, even slower than the worst of Brown’s cows.

Another noisy Hash Circle was held, noisy not only because the Launceston Hashers were still there, but someone had allowed Tals and Knickers into the room.

Chewy showed how he can still down after a night of revelry.

The inaugural H4 Hash r#n was held at Ridgeway on 2nd October 1967 and in memory of that fateful day all Tasmanian Hashers and friends are invited to join H4 on Tuesday 2nd October 2007 at the Ridgeway cross roads (H4 sacred site).

H4 will be digging up the original Hares of 1967, Fred ‘Gods Father’ Whittaker & Graham ‘Barrell’ Farrell to celebrate all that is Hash in Tasmania with a re-r#n of the original Hash trail followed by copious amounts of Cascade and their re-cremation on the BBQ.

Don’t be ashamed of your ancestry, cum along and claim some of your inheritance – although they have pissed most of it up against the wall.

The r#n starts at 6:00pm sharp

HHH Hash Trash August 3

Snow clouds gather from the south, reaching from the part of the troposphere that shares a bath towel with the Antarctic to bring bitter winds and ice-laden clouds scudding toward a certain point on the west coast of Tasmania.

Waratah.

This weekend only the toughest of the tough will converge on the Bischoff Hotel (the weakest of the weak having already fled for Ghana) for the fourth Wild West Weekend and Burnie H3's 900th Run.

Registrations, room allocation and pre-run intestinal warm up starts from noon this Saturday 4th August, with "on on!" called at 2pm.
After a tour of the rugged Waratah hinterland provided by hares Urang and Phay Ray, the pack will converge for an extended circle, before getting changed into their Sunday-best flannelette for a three course meal. Having been fed, everyone will then gather in the main bar for world-class entertainment provided by the likes of country and western songbird Tammy Wynott, 80s disco sensations the Village Idiots, and local stars, the necessarily re-vamped Trio Plus-or-minus One.

Those surviving until morning will be treated to a full cooked breakfast, before heading back out for a head-clearing saunter and hare of the dog, followed by the now traditional search for the Hash Hops.
For those who have not paid (most of you), it will set you back $60 for all of the above, plus a commemorative badge.

Bring plenty of warm, dry clothing and a decent set of ear plugs (not just for Karaoke, you may be sleeping next to FC).
