Hare: Slack Mac and Tals
On on: Walk to Winterbrook Falls
Hash cash: No charge
Bring: sturdy walking shoes, lunch

This is a half day walk from Smiths Plains to Winterbrook Falls. See Tal's recce report (below) for more info. Meeting at Penguin Caravan Park at 9am. Will adjourn to an Ulverstone pub for re-hydration and sustenance afterwards.

Have completed recce on Sunday’s trek to Winterbrook Falls.
Time from Penguin to Smiths Plains car park—1 Hour
Walk time to Falls—2 Hours A very gentle walk via Tramway Track. (Last 20 minutes a bit uphill) Lookout—Stunning and base of falls fabulous. “More beautiful than approaches to Walls of Jerusalem and soooo much easier—Photographers playground.” Came out via Maxwells Track—1 1/2 hours easy downhill. Could be comfortably completed by any BHHH member. Slacko has deliberately explored the only false trail available and he Won’t be doing that again!! You’re safe. I did it in sand-shoes but I recommend boots if you have them as parts of the track are a bit damp underfoot. An ideal walk to try out a trekking pole if you can get hold of one.
Love, Tals

Very reassuring Tals. Have bought two hiking poles this week. The lady at the hiking shop did not recommend purchasing hiking shoes for a one off occassion. The poles will be interesting to use. What about leaches?

No, the leeches don't need hiking poles, they never lose their footing. I will be taking salt to sprinkle on my lunch. Lone Arranger talked out of buying shoes? Shirley you jest!
